Looking for a unique, historic venue for your special day?

The 15th-century Dragon Hall – home to the National Centre for Writing – is a magnificent timbered trading hall and courtyard garden located in the heart of Norwich. The soaring oak-beamed Great Hall, paired with the contemporary glass wall of the Foyle Gallery, offers a stunning setting for your wedding day, and the specially designed white flower border in our garden forms an elegant backdrop for photographs. Dragon Hall is a stone’s throw from the city centre marketplace, and is very easily accessible by public transport, with several public carparks nearby.

We are fully licensed for weddings and civil partnerships and are also happy to host just your reception and evening party.

As Dragon Hall is home to the National Centre for Writing (an arts charity), we don’t ourselves manage weddings, therefore have enlisted some expert help! To ensure that every detail of your special day is perfect and memorable, we work with the acclaimed wedding specialists Softley Events, who have been supporting weddings at Dragon Hall for several years. They will provide you with a dedicated contact for any enquiries you may have throughout the booking and planning process. Their support and experience, which you can call on as and when suits you, is a particular bonus of the Dragon Hall wedding experience and is all part of the full wedding package.

Full wedding package

Our full wedding package is £3,750 and gives you the time and flexibility to relax and enjoy your special day in the most beautiful venue in central Norwich.

The full wedding package includes:

  • Exclusive use of the stunning Great Hall for ceremonies, drink receptions and dining; the beautifully light glass gallery for drinks and dancing; and the courtyard and garden with the beautiful white border flower bed –  a lovely spot for drinks and canapes, particularly in the evening sun.
  • Use of the venue across three days, so you have plenty of time to set up and add your personal finishing touches. The package includes venue access for three hours the day before (Friday), your wedding day (Saturday) from two hours before guests arrive until one hour after the finish time, and three hours the day after (Sunday) for collections.
  • A dedicated point of contact to assist you with your plans during the months, weeks and days leading up to your special day, and will be able to offer any advice as required.
  • Two discreet venue managers and door support, responsible for overseeing the building and ensuring your special day runs smoothly.
  • A cultivated book bundle – start your marital journey together with a selection of books specifically picked with your interests in mind! This very special offer involves a member of our team here at the National Centre for Writing calling for a brief chat to get a sense of both of your tastes and interests in order to pick a selection of books for you from local independent bookshop The Book Hive. There is no additional cost to this, it is included as part of our wedding offer.
  • Ceremony space for up to 120 guests.
  • Tables and chairs for up to 90 dining guests.
  • Use of a private retiring room for your celebrant.
  • Use of a kitchen and an approved list of caterers (catering, tableware and decorations not included.)
  • Full disabled access and a hearing loop in the Great Hall. More information on accessibility can be found here
  • Use of all audio-visual equipment.

If you would like to visit Dragon Hall to tour the building and discuss your wedding plans, please contact weddings@nationalcentreforwriting.org.uk or call 01603 877177. A member of our team would be happy to show you around the beautiful venue and even share a few of the building’s secret stories going back hundreds of year!

We are accommodating viewings of Dragon Hall in person, however if you are keen to be accommodated digitally due to COVID-19, we are happy to arrange a digital tour of the building using Zoom.

Dragon Hall is also available to hire for drinks and buffet receptions, dinners, conferences, performances and social occasions. Find out more >>
