Time to Write: Saturday Series
Do you love writing? Looking for a creative way to spend your weekends? Aged 8-13 and living and/or studying in Norfolk? Join us for Time to Write: Saturday Series!
Over nine sessions, you’ll create characters, build worlds, and write stories. In celebration of the 10-year anniversary of Norwich as a UNESCO City of Literature, we’ll take inspiration from the heritage and history of Norwich and Norfolk, creating stories together from the historic Dragon Hall in the heart of medieval Norwich. You will have the opportunity to:
- Write your own stories
- Develop your writing with the help of a professional writer
- Have the freedom to explore ideas
- Make friends with other like-minded young writers
- Get your writing published in the project pamphlet
- Read your work aloud at the end of programme celebration event
Time to Write: Saturday Series is a space where your story is important.
You’ll be in a group of 15 like-minded creatives and led by experienced workshop tutor and writer, James Smart. In your final session, you’ll be joined by a performance expert to teach you how to bring your stories to life when reading out loud. To sign up for Time to Write, you must live or go to school in Norfolk.

All workshops will take place at Dragon Hall in Norwich every other Saturday at 10.00am – 12.30pm.

About the tutor
James Smart is a short story writer from Barnsley who loves language and helping others feel empowered to tell their stories and share their experiences. He has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia and his stories have been published in the UK and abroad. James was shortlisted for The Commonwealth Short Story Prize, won the award for best new writer with US journal Glimmertrain, and has been nominated twice for the Pushcart Prize and once for the Best of the Net award. He lives in Norwich and loves making things, discovering new ideas and places.
Bursaries
If you are facing financial barriers, we can offer your child a place on the sessions free of charge. We also have travel bursaries available for travelling to/from Dragon Hall.
