Join the NCW Book Club

The National Centre for Writing’s Book Club helps you discover new books, challenges your usual reading habits and introduces you to other readers. Every couple of months we announce a new book and host friendly conversations online. It’s entirely free to join and all are welcome!

How it works

We highly recommend you join our free online community over on Discord, where there’s a space to chat about the book while you’re reading (no spoilers!). You can join up simply by clicking here.
At scheduled intervals we’ll also arrange for cosier Zoom-powered discussions, open to anyone who would really like to dig in to the themes or style of the chosen book. Spaces are limited on the Zoom chats, so that everyone gets a chance to speak.
We also share extra resources to aid discussion and further thinking, which can be useful if you want to discuss a book with friends or family.

Currently reading: ‘Heaven’ by Mieko Kawakami

We are reading Heaven by Mieko Kawakami (published by Picador) during June and July 2022. Shortlisted for the International Booker Prize 2022, this sharp and illuminating novel about a fourteen-year-old boy subjected to relentless bullying was described by Cosmopolitan as ‘a sucker-punch of a story that implores you to question even your own morality.’
