We are delighted to announce that we have received news of a funding award as part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisations, a move that fully supports the launch of the National Centre for Writing in England’s first UNESCO City of Literature.
Due to open as the National Centre for Writing in Norwich’s historic Dragon Hall next year, we will receive £498,405 per year from 2018-19 to 2021-22 to carry on our work with writers, translators, readers, children and young people and to develop our world class international programmes. We also received a funding uplift which it will use to develop our work in translation across the country.
WCN Chief Executive Chris Gribble said:
‘This is a ringing endorsement of the work Writers’ Centre Norwich is currently delivering, and allows us to grow and develop as we prepare to open as the National Centre in summer 2018. The funding uplift will specifically enable us to focus resources in translation work, an area for which we are gaining global recognition.
Our vision is to be a centre of national and international literary exchange in a world class UNESCO City of Literature and this funding will play no small part in helping us translate this vision into reality.’
